It’s been a bit of an up-and-down campaign for the Roosevelt baseball team, which had a 10-15 record heading into the final week of the regular season.
There have been some big wins and a few ugly losses.
One of the prettiest wins came on May 13 when the Bears beat Dearborn Edsel Ford 3-0 on a beautiful four-hit, complete-game effort by Donavan Canterberry.
The highly touted junior scattered the four Edsel hits, struck out five and did not walk a single batter.
He also helped his own cause with an RBI. Keegan Rose and Robbie Longoria also had RBI in the game.
The Bears finished the regular season with Downriver League games against Carlson and Lincoln Park and a non-league game with Livonia Franklin.
District play will begin for the Bears on June 1 with a pre-district game against River Rouge at Lincoln Park High School. The winner of that game will advance to face Anderson on June 5 at 10 a.m. Roosevelt has defeated Anderson twice this season, scoring 11 runs the first time and 10 the second.
On the other side of the bracket, Lincoln Park wil face Allen Park and the district championship game is set for 2 p.m. June 5.
The Roosevelt softball team will also head to Lincoln Park for districts on June 5
The district breaks down this way: Anderson and host Lincoln Park will play a pre-district game on June 1. On June 5, the winner of the pre-district will play Taylor at 10 a.m. and Wyandotte will play Allen Park at noon. The championship will be decided at 2 p.m.
The Lincoln Park game will be a change for a little revenge for the Bears, who lost twice during the regular season to the Jaguars.
