Michael Makuch had a great sophomore cross country season. He led the Bears throughout and capped the year with a berth at the Michigan HIgh School Athletic Association Division 1 state finals.
Makuch is a junior now, and he occupies a familiar position at the top of the Roosevelt pack.
At the 20-team Rambling Rock Invitational at Willow Metropark on Sept. 11, Makuch led the Bears with a run of 16:58. Sam Rankine, who was a solid and reliable No, 2 man for coach Jordan Thackery last year, was next for the Bears at the Rambling Rock with a time of 17:35.
Riley Greene, Christian Mendez and Luke Ivity finished the scoring for Roosevelt
On the girls side of the race, Roosevelt was 1oth among 21 teams.
Junior Amanda Cost just missed out on a top 10 finish, running 19:20 to finish in 11th place. Senior Aubry Migoski was next in 21st place in 19:53.
Lauren Moreno, Stevie Pizzo and Paige Chinavare finished the Roosevelt scoring.
The Rambling Rock, which featured some of the top cross country schools in Southeastern Michigan, was a good warm-up for the Bears, who now get the season started in earnest.
The Bears were among 42 schools running in two division at the Huron Invitational on Sept. 18, they were at the Lake Erie Metropark on Sept. 21 for the first Downriver League Jamboree of the season and they will be in Monroe on Saturday, Sept. 25, where they will see, among others, league rivals Woodhaven, Trenton and Carlson, as well as top teams Dearborn Divine Child, Saline and Macomb Dakota.
